Thule Roof Cargo Box Review

Updated: Aug 5

Are you jamming everything you own in the trunk of you car for day-to-day activities? A road trip? Then consider investing in a Thule Roof Cargo Box - it is a lifesaver! We recently purchased one at REI and had it professionally installed, along with the cross-bars for a 3-week road trip with our two toddlers. It has made the trip possible and with little stress.

The Thule roof cargo box (Force XT L or XL Roof Box) is the perfect storage for your traveling needs. It easily fit 5 duffel bags, lots of diapers, 2 air mattresses, the classic bag-of-stuff and a few other items. This freed up our trunk for easy access to our must-have items and our stroller. It was a great addition to our Subaru Ascent.

The Thule cargo box came with 2-keys and is a soo water proof as we experienced several rain storms with no dampness or wanted on any items. It is easy to drive with and had no impact on our speed or gas mileage.

The going rate for the cargo box is:

$749.95 - Force XT L Roof Box

$799.95 - Forcd XT XL Roof Box

Key tip: take a picture of your keys and store the key number safely as you can request duplicates from REI/Thule should you lose them.

REI Customer Service: the service provided by REI was exceptional. In a brief phone call we were able to confirm availability and reserve all of the needed parts. We had only 5 days to accomplish the box, cross bars installation. The installation took 35 minutes for everything and was ready to drive away within the hour.

Consider the roof cargo box as a resource for you and your family. If you can install yourself you certainly can do. Do what feels easiest - and remember it is ok to ask for help!
