The Beginning… Being a Dad

Updated: Aug 2, 2023

Did you know that more than a quarter of the 121 million men in the United States are biological fathers of at least one child under the age of 18? Consider that number – does it surprise you? Alarm you? Make you think about yourself as a dad, a friend who is a dad, your dad?

A recent Census report found that about three-quarters of fathers were married. Almost 13% of dads were divorced and 8% had never been married. The mixture of background, experience, as well as wants and needs range for the dads across the U.S.

I became a dad in January 2020. It is certainly the single greatest achievement that my wife and I brought the purest of joy into the world.

In an update to this post originally written in 2021, I have had the joy of welcoming our addition to our family and they are now 18-months old! With a family-of-4 we have certainly learned, grown and found how incredible our family is.

I love being a dad and feel the intrinsic fulfilment each day when I see my daughter smile. My desire with The Dad World is:

1. To create a space to share tips, resources and tools with all dads

2. To create a space for a community to form

3. To share my story and experiences

4. To help others as we collectively manage through the up & downs of parenting

I hope you will join me on this adventure, share your thoughts and experiences. Don’t be shy and ask questions.

More to follow as often as possible and I certainly invite you to contribute your own words!
