October 30, 2019 Update: According to the CDC, this outbreak appears to be over, as the rate of new human illnesses reports has slowed and returned to baseline levels. FDA continues to investigate and work with state partners to monitor the marketplace. FDA advises retailers who wish to introduce pig ear pet treats into the market to take appropriate steps to ensure that their suppliers are controlling for pathogens, and that products are not cross-contaminated after processing. FDA urges firms to remain vigilant about taking measures to control pathogens such as Salmonella, and to conduct regular assessments, including testing, to ensure the effectiveness of their processing and the safety of their products. August 20, 2019 Update: FDA and CDC continue to advise consumers to avoid all pig ear pet treats and retailers to stop selling all pig ear treats at this time. On August 16, 2019, Dog Goods USA LLC recalled non-irradiated bulk and packaged Chef Toby Pig Ears.
On August 22, the FDA updated Import Alert 72-03 to include three firms that presented pig ears for import that then tested positive for Salmonella: Custom Pet S.A.S (Colombia), Suarko SRL (Argentina), and Anabe Industria e Comercio de Proteinas (Brazil). On November 1, 2019, the FDA added Vitapet Comercial, Industrial e Exportadora Ltda (Brazil).
With the recent announcements of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) investigating contaminated Pig Ear Treats connecting to Salmonella, Pet Supplies Plus is advising consumers it is recalling bulk pig ear product supplied to all locations by several different vendors due to the potential of Salmonella contamination. Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.
Bulk pig ears were distributed to Pet Supplies Plus stores in AL, AR, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, NC, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, WI and WV. Bulk pig ears were stocked in open bins. Prepackaged branded pig ears are not included in this voluntary recall.
Testing by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development revealed that aging bulk pig ear product in one of our stores tested positive for Salmonella. We have pulled bulk pig ear product from the shelves at all of our stores and have stopped shipping bulk pig ears from our Distribution Center. We are working with the FDA as they continue their investigation as to what caused the reported Salmonella related illnesses.

I have german shepherds and trying to find treats for them that last a while and are also healthy is difficult. Pigs ears satisfy both these issues. They last a good fifteen minutes before disappearing and are reasonably healthy for the dogs. All round a good quality treat for my dogs.

These are great and being able to buy in bulk is convenient, I now store in plastic bag not the box as the last order I got had some bugs in it and suggest they be supplied in plastic bag inside the box to reduce risk of infestations occurring prior to delivery.
I just received a box of 50 with my order and was amazed at the size! The pig ears are always at least as big as the ones you can buy from the supermarkets but these were huge! Also very fresh, not dry and shriveled like some pre-packed brands. Highly recommendable!
My puppies love these pigs ears! I have probably ordered around 7or 8 boxes of 100 so far, on my second delivery I only received 98 of the 100 and on my last delivery I received 99/100. This is the only issue I have experienced to date. I have not made a formal complaint as yet however if it happens a third time I will be.

We bought in bulk as our Labrador loves pig ears. Our order arrived in a cardboard box with pig ears loose inside ( which suited us just fine as personally we prefer no unnecessary plastic packaging ) although some people may prefer to put them into a singular bag to reduce their smell.
